Workshops with Paul

You will find the following workshops below. In each of the workshops, you will find there are some questions that you can discuss in small groups, as a whole school or with us, online, if you wish to.

Join our community to find like-minded educators working through the course.

The workshops will last for 60 minutes and are focused on:

1. Tricky questions

A fascinating discussion on the key principles that frame relational practice and define its values. Do we give children what they deserve or what they need? Challenging or distressed? Fantastic walking or 'Code Black'?

2. Relational currency

The power of emotional currency. How to get it, what to do with it and when to spend it most effectively. This workshop is all about positive relationships, positive acknowledgement and noticing. The apparently small stuff has an incredible impact.

3. Consequences

What is the role of consequences in relational practice? From centralised detentions to restorative conversations, how do you land a consequence without damaging the trust you have built up with a student? Are stepped consequences effective or exclusionary?

4. Tough situations

Working with children who experience crises during the school day means you need a backup plan as well as an everyday plan. How should you react, what systems do you draw on and how can you help children recover. Be ready to share what you have learned and to pool some ideas.
